You’re thinking about moving up to overnight summer camp. The activities sound awesome but you’re a little nervous about missing your parents and how it’s all going to work being on your own. We at Camp Emerson understand just how you feel. We’ve helped 100’s of kids every summer feel safe and comfortable so that they can do everything they dreamed of doing at sleepaway camp. We will help you too.
Our 1st Timer’s Program helps you BEFORE and DURING camp….

Getting to know you
Getting ready - tips and info
• Keeping an eye on you and always being there when you need us

Before Camp (up)
One of the best ways to make you more comfortable is for you to meet us. If you live between Boston and Washington, DC, we want to visit you, meet your parents and tell you why we think Camp Emerson is "Not Your Ordinary Summer Camp". Prepare a list of questions and we’ll explain what your day would be like, talk about any concerns you have and show you lots of pictures.

We also have available several ways to “visit camp” before the first day so you can picture yourself at camp. Come tour camp if you can. We also give you a 1st Timer's DVD, so you can check out the bunks, showers and other places around Emerson. That way, you’re ready to hit the ground running on the first day!

Getting To Know You
We want to learn all about you! Tell us your favorite activities, how you sleep, what you like to eat, about your friends and any other information you want us to know. We will ask your parents to help us out too. The more we know about you, the better job we can do picking your bunkmates and keep you happy.

Getting Ready – Tips and Info
We have a lot of information to help you and your parents get ready for camp. You'll get details on: how you pick activities, preparing to say good-bye the first day, what to buy for camp, dealing with homesickness, how mail, phone calls & packages work and a whole lot more.
By the time the 1st day of camp approaches, we know you’ll feel ready (still a little nervous – that’s normal) because you’re prepared and you feel like you know us already.

During Camp (up)
Keeping In Touch With Your Parents
When you are at camp, your parents will call 3 times each session. We set up a schedule with your parents before camp even starts. You’ll know when they will be calling. Your parents can send you e-mails, letters and packages throughout the summer too. And, of course, there’s a visiting day halfway through. It’s a special day when you can show off everything you’re doing and introduce your counselors and friends.

We also stay in contact with your parents during the summer. We put up pictures and information on the website every day so they can see all the fun we’re having. On the 2nd day of camp, we call them and let them know how you’re doing. If you’re not feeling well at any time during the session, we will let them know that too. Your parents can call the Directors at any time and touch base with us too.

Keeping An Eye On You
Our staff is the best in the world. They are talented teachers and dedicated to the campers. You will know them all. We have 100 staff members for 200 campers. That is a 1 to 2 ratio…. one staff eyeball per camper! All focused on making you happy.
If you have any questions or concerns, just ask. Even little things… Dropped your toothbrush? We will get you a new one. Hungry? Let’s get you something to eat. Want to stay up until midnight and eat candy? Sorry… we have to have some rules!

The Directors at Camp Emerson have a reputation for fixing problems. We are around all the time and you are not bothering us if you want to talk or need a hug. This is an important part of our job. Share your concerns and you will see that we can take care of most anything.

We would love to meet you and your parents, show you pictures and tell you more about Camp Emerson. Sound good? Just ask your parents to give us a call so we can set up a home visit.
