Hey, my name’s Abi Axon and I’m from Cheshire in England. This is my 3rd summer at Camp Emerson as a lifeguard and swimming teacher and my first summer as a Pool Director. I can’t wait to spend another summer by the pool! For me it just doesn’t get any better!

A little about my background: I’ve been lucky enough to have grown-up swimming, even doing so competitively from the age of 12 up to a Regional standard. Swimming has played a huge role in my life and lead me to coaching at a club from the age of 14, qualifying as a Level 1 Swimming teacher, Lifeguard (NPLQ), and then as a level 2 Swimming Teacher all by the age of 18. I’ve worked with so many people over the years from; young children to squad members to adults and still LOVE to teach – and who can blame me? It’s what has lead me to have enjoyed two, soon to be three summers at Emerson!

A favorite Activity of mine to teach, new in 2015, was Junior Lifeguarding. The kids loved it and were so proud of themselves, to have learned new and potentially lifesaving skills! The questions, curiosity and dedication of the kids involved was great. They knew how serious the subject/skills were but enjoyed every second of it.

Other amazing activities at Lake Emerson are Extreme Lake and Gladiator. With awesome instructors, last summer the kids competed in teams in loads of different activities; some were funny, some challenging. Everyone who takes part comes away with a new Gladiator name like “The Hurricane” or “The Flash” and a certificate.

Personally I aim to get everyone confident (and competent) around water, so they can enjoy it, safely, in any way they want - be that swimming on vacation with family or learning to water-ski at camp! I know a lot of campers are worried about the swim test when you get to camp. If you like the water and have been swimming before, I’m sure you’ll be fine. So I say, “Don’t worry!” No matter what your level, our friendly teachers will help you.

All of these favorites, plus pool toys, noodles, watersports for a friendly team competition, pool parties and free swim makes for non-stop fun at the Pool and Lake Emerson. We will be building on these classes, making them even better for the summer ahead.

I can’t wait to see you all down at the pool for another EXTRAordinary summer!
