Food Allergy Questions

Food Allergy Questions?

Would you like to speak with Director Sue Lein about how we create an allergy safe summer camp experience?

Our journey with food allergies started in 1994 with our first wheat allergic camper. Back then there were no gluten free aisles in the grocery stores or specialty products void of allergens. This boy was followed by many, many peanut and treenut allergic children over the next 10 years.

That’s when I made it part of our mission to provide safe foods for all children with food allergies and Celiac Disease so that they can concentrate on the fun of camp without the worries. When other camps were telling families, they couldn’t go to camp with food allergies, we said come to Camp Emerson! We can absolutely do this.

I recognize that parents are apprehensive about trusting other adults with their child’s food preparation. Camp Emerson’s staff of Registered Dietitians and professional chefs trained on cross contamination are vigilant in their pre-camp preparations to ensure that both parents and campers are comfortable. In addition, there is a team of medical staff and a hospital within 15 minutes. We’re proud to have our parents say that our staff and communications go above and beyond their expectations.

Camp Emerson is open to everyone and is not just a camp for children with food allergies. So siblings, cousins and friends can all be at camp together.

We are proud to be leading the camp industry with our support for food allergies. I’m sure you’ll have questions and I’m here to answer them all. Call me!
